Angeles de Plátanos

The prestigious Galería Carmen Montilla in La Habana, Cuba, will host a remarkable exhibition by Cuban-American artist Raphael Diaz on April 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Titled "Ángeles de Plátanos", this exhibition showcases a profound series of engravings that reflect Diaz’s deep connection to his Cuban roots, his experiences in the Dominican Republic, and his artistic exploration of cultural identity and resilience.

Raphael Diaz, an artist of international acclaim, has exhibited his works across multiple countries, captivating audiences with his intricate artworks and symbolic narratives. His latest series, "Ángeles de Plátanos," reimagines the plantain—an emblematic fruit of the Caribbean—as a symbol of labor, survival, and spiritual transcendence. Through detailed compositions, he portrays angelic figures emerging from the essence of the plantain, blending surrealism with a raw, evocative storytelling that honors the working class and Afro-Caribbean heritage.

This exhibition has been made possible with the support of various artistic and cultural institutions, including DAFA (Diverse Advocacy Foundation for the Arts), Centro Cultural Perelló, PhilArtis, La Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana, Embajada de la Republica Dominicana en Cuba, and HproFilms. Their collective effort underscores a commitment to artistic collaboration and cultural exchange, bringing Raphael Diaz’s visionary work to the heart of Cuba’s artistic scene.
